Volunteering Opportunities

The Mission to Seafarers in Gladstone operates by the faithful work and support of over 30 volunteers under the guidance of a full time chaplain / manager.

The seafarers centre is open every day of the year, so the work and dedication of the volunteers to achieve this huge task is greatly appreciated. Volunteers have various opportunities to serve the mission that include:

  • Bus Drivers - driving to various wharves and around town to transport seafarers
  • Duty Officers - overseeing the daily sales of the mission shop, foreign currency exchange
  • Shop Assistants - assisting the Duty Officer in the running of the shop
  • Administration - banking, computer data entry
  • Ship Visiting - providing mission information, spiritual outreach and counselling to crew on board vessels, assisting with justice matters
  • Shop Management - managing the effective operation of the shop, ordering and purchasing supplies, bill paying, computer data entry

If you are considering becoming a volunteer, you are welcome to drop in to the seafarers centre to have a look at what is involved. Training is provided to all volunteers and excellent skills can be gained to further your experience level.

To find out more information please call the seafarers centre on 4972 0355, or alternatively contact the chaplain on 0414 720 356.

As well as funds raised through the operation of our shop, the mission is reliant on the generous donations of funds from churches, industry and individuals to keep operating. Donations of money will be allocated on a needs basis, or donors may like to supply products to assist us to serve seafarers better, for example computers etc.

If you would like to make a donation or require further information, please call the chaplain on 0414 720 356.
